COVID-19 | MEDIA OVERVIEW

Calls for increased U.S. federal action, coverage of the historic $2 trillion economic stimulus bill, escalating death counts in Spainand the U.S., a complete lockdown in India, and concerns about the global supplyof medical equipment characterized the past week’s COVID-19 coverage. U.S. governors, notably New York governor Andrew Cuomo, used strong terms to implore the federal government to impose oversight over which states received much-needed medical supplies first and to leverage the Defense Production Act to scale up production. Facing pressure from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S., the IOC announced Tuesday that the 2020 Olympics would be postponed.

Looking ahead, heighted calls for government and private sector action is expected. According to projections published in theNew York Timesat time of reporting, deaths in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Netherlands areexpected to double every three days; in Spain and France every four days.
